Located in the Gyochon Village, Gyeongju Hyanggyo is a national educational institution of the Joseon Dynasty that educated future generations and honored ancestors' tablets.
Hyanggyos were established throughout the country during the Joseon Dynasty.
Gyeongju Hyanggyo was the largest one in the Gyeongsang Province.
A shrine called Daeseongjeon, where ancestral rites were performed, is located at the front, and a hall called Myeongnyundang, where scholars studied, is located at the back.
To this day, the most significant ancestral rite ceremony in Gyeongju is held at Hyanggyo during the spring and fall, followed by a traditional wedding ceremony to continue the tradition.
