Asanyeo came to Seorabeol (the old name of Gyeongju) to see her husband, who had gone from Baekje to Silla, to build a pagoda.
She heard that when the tower was completed, her shadow would be reflected on the pond, and she waited patiently, but she did not see it, and she was overcome with longing and threw herself into the pond.
Yeongji is the name of a pond that holds this sad story. It is located not far from Bulguksa Temple. It has been created as a park with a secluded walking trail around the pond. The beautiful cherry blossom tunnel in the middle of the promenade is considered a hidden cherry blossom spot in Gyeongju.
